Pele's Humbling Power
To stand before Earth's immense power is to be humbled.
The Kilauea volcano on the island of Hawaii has erupted every few weeks since December 2024. I was grateful to witness eruption 34 of 2025. From about a mile away I felt Pele's power in the intense heat and loud roar of the dual-vent eruption. The rising sun lit both the volcano's yellow gas cloud and the slopes of Mauna Kea.
